Mo Scollan
My current work is influenced by my last pre-covid trip to Ireland. It was the first time that I visited the Dingle Peninsula. Lately those landscape island paintings have been affected by the seemingly unending pandemic, and the psychological consequences that are creeping into my work.
Mo started her artistic odyssey, at the age of 16, in Dublin, Ireland, in a silk-screen apprenticeship. She developed skills that were advanced during subsequent travels, with positions in San Francisco, Miami, and later New York. There she utilized her artistic talents designing hand-painted clothing for Horito-Fulgenzi, as well as developing office management skills for that firm, which came to fruition when she next started her eponymous firm, Mo Scollan Designs. New directions explored in her artistic development were painted clothing lines, textile design, decorative ceramics, and custom lighting design. Painting on canvas entered her portfolio during her time in Seattle in the 1990’s, which she later showcased at 2040 Gallery, the art gallery she started in Austin, Texas in 2002. She developed curatorial skills, mounting diverse shows that juxtaposed fine and functional art and sculpture, poetry and spoken word. Mo continues to live, paint, and work in Austin, TX.
